It´s end of the year again and we love to present to you the very last Soul Ex Machina release of 2022 - dark, stone cold duo of halftime drum&bass bangers exploring the darkest tones of the style´s spectrum. Mat Ranson aka Focal Point is no beginner in the world of music. He began his journey with analogue IDM, hip-hop and techno under the Fisk Industries and Kwaidan aliases with releases on such labels as Highpoint Lowlife (UK) and Mush (USA), which brought him appearances on air of BBC Radio 1's and Resonance FM. After a hiatus, taking inspirations and constant development of style led him to the Focal Point project: an exploration of techno, industrial, drum&bass spaces in a wide range of tempos. The ninth single on Soul Ex Machina features "Forma" and "Futurestates" as the finest of the outcomes of his journey.

Forma starts with ominous soundscapes with rhythmic promises, building up the tensions into intense, kick driven halftime drum&bass rollout. Eerie percussion, deep growls, gothic atmospheres take influences from the industrial sounds, combining with the bass-heavy foundation of the 170bpm broken beat genres. When we talk about "Futurestates", things get much more on the techno inspired side of Focal Point style. Sombre sound patterns with hypnotic, low-frequency attenuated rolling beats are made straight for darkened rooms.
